Like other major cities in the United State, people of all ages are making Downtown Dallas and its surrounding neighborhoods their new urban homes. They are choosing a lifestyle different from the suburban lifestyle of their youth and are moving back to the city into luxurious, contemporary condos and lofts as well as quaint historic homes, cottages, and bungalows.

Are you ready for a change? We certainly were, so we took the plunge a few years ago and now live a lifestyle perfectly matched to our personalities. Ahhh…

Single Family Home – Ownership includes the house and the yard up to the property lines

Townhome – Ownership includes the house structure and the lot it sits on.

Condominium – Ownership includes your individual condo unit and a shared interest in the common areas

He told me that he is a farm boy and his wife is a city girl. During their marriage they have lived in a suburb near Minneapolis, a farm in rural Minnesota, and Downtown Phoenix. I asked him which place he liked best -he said it was a toss up between the Downtown Phoenix and the farm in Minnesota. Both he and his wife hated the suburbs. I asked him why. After much silent deliberation, he cocked his head and said, “I don’t know…”

Why is this question so hard to answer?

I found a video on You Tube last night that comes close to answering this question. At least it resonates with me. Everyone, the video concludes, needs a “sense of place”, a place that you CARE about. The gentleman in the coffee shop cared about the farm and he cared about the community energy of the city. He did not find anything in the suburbs to care about. Same thing with me… I did not care about my suburban neighborhood and I care very deeply about my downtown community.
